Kim is a dedicated and experienced mental health professional licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Iowa and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Wisconsin. She is also a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and holds a Trauma Endorsement in the State of Iowa, reflecting her advanced training and expertise in trauma-informed care.
Before entering the counseling profession, Kim taught science in the public school system, providing her with a unique understanding of adolescent development, learning, and the challenges faced by students and families. Her diverse professional background has helped shape her practical, compassionate, and evidence-based approach to therapy.
Kim has extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families and is passionate about helping clients navigate life's most difficult challenges. Her clinical interests include the treatment of anxiety disorders, trauma and PTSD, sexual assault recovery, adolescent concerns, relationship issues, and major life transitions. She is committed to helping clients build resilience, improve emotional well-being, and develop healthier relationships.
Working with individuals ages 17 and older and couples, Kim utilizes an integrative, person-centered, and trauma-informed approach tailored to each client's unique needs and goals. She believes healing occurs within a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship and collaborates with clients to identify strengths, overcome barriers, and create meaningful change.
Kim's advanced clinical training includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for adolescents and adults, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness-based interventions, and Gottman Method couples strategies. By combining these evidence-based approaches, she helps clients develop practical coping skills, process trauma, improve communication, and strengthen emotional connections.
